New Delhi, August 18
The Supreme Court in the present day dismissed a PIL in search of switch of cash collected below the PM Cares Fund for the Covid-19 pandemic to the National Disaster Response Fund.
“The outbreak of Covid-19 in India requires immediate enhancement in medical health infrastructure and creation of fund to contain Covid-19. At this need of the hour, no exception can be taken to the constitution of a public charitable trust, namely PM Cares Fund, to have necessary financial resources to meet the emergent situation,” stated a three-judge Bench headed by Justice Ashok Bhushan. Petitioner Centre for Public Interest Litigation had contended that creation of the PM Cares Fund violated provisions of the National Disaster Management Act. Rubbishing Congress’ criticism, BJP chief and Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad stated “transparency is writ large in the PM Cares Fund.” — TNS
