New Delhi, August 28
The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a PIL looking for to defer the Bihar Assembly ballot attributable to Covid-19, saying the pandemic can’t be a floor for suspending elections.
“How can we ask the Election Commission of India to not hold elections? Covid cannot be a valid ground for postponement of elections,” a Bench headed by Justice Ashok Bhushan informed petitioner Avinash Thakur.
The Election Commission would think about all the things, it mentioned, terming the petition “premature” as notification for the Assembly ballot was but to be issued.
Thakur had sought a path to the Chief Election Commissioner to postpone the elections as a result of pandemic on the bottom that the Representation of the People Act offers for the deferment of ballot in extraordinary conditions. — TNS
