Pandit Jasraj cremated with state honours

Indian classical vocalist Pandit Jasraj was on Thursday cremated with state honours within the presence of his relations and shut mates.

The 90-year-old music doyen, who belonged to the Mewati Gharana, handed away on Monday following a cardiac arrest at his dwelling in New Jersey, America.

He was within the US when the coronavirus-forced lockdown was introduced and had determined to remain again within the nation.

Pandit Jasraj’s son, Shaarang Dev Pandit, carried out the final rites, which had been adopted by a 21-gun salute at Vile Parle’s Pawan Hans Crematorium.

Due to the continued coronavirus pandemic, solely 25-30 individuals had been allowed on the crematorium.

According to Pritam Sharma, media coordinator for the household, granddaughter Shweta Pandit, composer Jatin Pandit, singer Anup Jalota, Kailash Kher and others had been current on the funeral.

Earlier within the day, the mortal stays of Pandit Jasraj, draped within the nationwide flag, had been stored at his Versova residence for ‘darshan’.
