The Andhra Pradesh (AP) Municipal Elections have generated a lot of political head days ahead of polling with the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) President Asaduddin Owaisi accusing the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) of indulging in wrong practices including buying candidates to win by any means.
Owaisi who said his party has supported the YSRCP in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls and Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections to ensure the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) was defeated was disheartened by the “unfair” methods being adopted by the YSRCP.
He was talking at a campaigning rally in Adoni town of Kurnool district where he said: “YSRCP is buying candidates of other parties for the municipal elections. YSRCP is misusing the police force to favour its own candidates”.
Showing confidence over his party nominees, Owaisi said they will give the fight to the political stalwarts and win. “I want to tell everyone that my party candidates cannot be won over by any pressure or allurement,” he said.
He said the YSRCP was misleading the people, adding: “ITI college for minorities was built with the funds of the central government, but the state government is not starting the classes. The state government is also planning to demolish an Eidgah in Adoni town. This decision should be withdrawn”.
The AIMIM leader said that the government was trying to convert the local Jama Masjid into a parking lot. The construction of the Urdu college and school building that was started in 2019 is yet to be completed—if the AIMIM candidates win they will prevail upon the government to complete the unfinished project besides seeking 4 per cent reservation for Muslims in the state.
