Ahead of the talks between the Centre and the agitating farmers on Tuesday, the Congress urged the ministers to approach the farmers’ concerns with an open heart.

Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala led the party’s stand on the talks demanding that the government should either announce suspension of the three farm laws that are bothering the farmers or announce legal guarantee for the minimum support price regime.

“Please call all farmer organisations for talks to have a comprehensive view of what is agitating them,” Surjewala asked the government.

The Congress general secretary said the government must withdraw over 12,000 FIRs registered against farmers over their ongoing agitation besides dropping charges slapped on some for burning stubble.

The Congress reiterated its old demand of withdrawal of the farm laws and said if withdrawal is not being considered, MSP guarantee must be there.
