No slum dwellers alongside railway tracks in Delhi shall be eliminated until determination is taken: Centre to SC

The Centre knowledgeable the Supreme Court on Monday that no slum dwellers alongside the 140 km size of railway tracks in Delhi could be eliminated until a last determination is taken by the federal government.

A Bench headed by Chief Justice SA Bobde was knowledgeable by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta {that a} last determination could be taken in session with the Railways, the Delhi authorities and the Urban Development Ministry.

The Bench, additionally comprising Justices A S Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian, recorded Mehta’s assurance and mentioned that no coercive motion be taken in opposition to these slum dwellers for 4 weeks.

The high court docket on August 31 had directed the removing of round 48,000 slum dwellings alongside the railway tracks in Delhi inside three months and mentioned there shall not be any form of political interference in execution of the plan.

The Bench was on Monday listening to the functions, together with the one filed by senior Congress chief Ajay Maken, who has sought rehabilitation of those slum dwellers previous to their removing. PTI
