NIA to probe Kerala gold smuggling case

The Centre as we speak determined at hand over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) the probe into the gold smuggling case on the Thiruvananthapuram worldwide airport in Kerala, claiming that the incident “may have serious implications for national security”.

The resolution got here a day after Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan wrote a letter to PM Narendra Modi searching for his “intervention for an effective probe” into the seizure of gold price crores from a “diplomatic baggage” on the airport.

“The MHA permits the NIA to probe the Thiruvananthapuram airport gold smuggling case, as the organised smuggling operation may have serious implications for national security,” the MHA assertion learn. Key suspect Swapna Suresh has informed the Kerala HC that she had contacted the Customs officer on the Thiruvananthapuram airport on the instructions of Rashid Khamis Al Shameli, performing head of the native UAE Consulate. — TNS
