NIA takes over probe in two Bengaluru riots circumstances

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has formally taken over the investigation in two circumstances pertaining to the violence that broke out within the metropolis on August 11 evening over an alleged derogatory social media submit by the relative of a Congress MLA.

According to the NIA, a crew headed by an IG-rank officer is tenting in Bengaluru in reference to the probe into the circumstances, by which the provisions of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) have been invoked by the state police.

In pursuance of the Ministry of Home Affairs order beneath Section 6(4) and eight of the NIA Act 2008, the NIA took over the investigation of two circumstances of arson and violence whereby the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act had been invoked by state police.

The two circumstances have been registered at DJ Halli police station and Kadugondanahalli right here.

The circumstances have been registered beneath varied sections of the IPC, the Prevention of Damage of Public Property Act, the Karnataka Prevention of Destruction and the Loss of Property Act.

More than 300 folks, together with some SDPI members, have been arrested in reference to the arson and violence within the metropolis on August 11 evening, focusing on the Pulakeshinagar Congress MLA R Akhanda Srinivasa Murthy and his sister over a purported inflammatory social media submit.

Four folks died within the violence, together with three within the police firing.

The BJP has blamed the SDPI, a political outfit of Popular Front of India, for the riots and demanded a ban on the organisation.

The SDPI has nevertheless rejected the costs as ‘baseless’.

In an announcement on Tuesday, the NIA mentioned: “The mob was protesting the derogatory social media (Facebook) post about Prophet Mohammed made on August 11 at around 4 pm by Naveen, nephew of the MLA allegedly insulting the religious sentiments of Muslims.”

The State Secretary of SDPI, Muzamil Pasha, had earlier known as a gathering and directed the members of the Popular Front of India and the Social Democratic Party of India to instigate the mob and incite violence, the NIA mentioned.

The mob went on a rampage in DJ Halli, KG Halli and Pulakeshi Nagar and attacked the DJ Halli and KG Halli police stations and vandalised the property of police stations together with authorities and personal automobiles parked within the police stations.

The mob additionally attacked the home of the MLA and Naveen earlier than attacking the police stations, it added.  PTI
