NCB conducts pan-India operations, seizes practically 89 kg of banned substances

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Thursday said it had seized nearly 89 kg of different kinds of contrabands in multiple pan-India operations in the recent past and Mumbai emerged as their major destination.

The NCB in an official statement also said that in a separate operation in Jammu 56 kg of hashish was seized after the main receiver of the consignment was arrested in Mumbai.

“Metro cities of India serve as the prime destination for various contrabands. The NCB in synchronised operations at Mumbai and its connections with rest of India has made various seizures and arrests, which are having ramifications on the narcotics supply chain,” the agency said in a statement.

“Of the total four operations conducted by the NCB in the recent past, the first was in Mumbai where it seized 1 kg of cocaine and 2 kg of PCP (phencyclidine) from one M Ahmed from Vasai, Palghar,” it said, adding that during interrogation, Ahmed revealed that the contrabands had been provided to him by one SK Saurabh for further selling.

Based on the information provided by Ahmed, the NCB team apprehended Saurabh on October 13 from Vasai, Palghar, and his sustained interrogation led to further recovery of 29.30 kg of MDA from his shop/godown on October 14, said the agency.

Saurabh also revealed that the drugs belonged to A Khanivadekar and R Khanivadekar, who were later arrested, the statement added.

In another operation in Jammu on September 15, DRI sleuths seized about 56.4 kg of charas concealed in 55 packets at Ban Toll Plaza in the Nagrota area of the city and apprehended M Gupta, A Gambir and Sonia, all residents of Delhi, it said, adding that Rs 1,91,000 and an XUV 500 SUV were also confiscated. The charas was destined for Mumbai.

Later in a combined operation between Jammu and operations units the main suspect of 56 kg charas case Faruk Chandbadhsah Shaikh was apprehended from Mumbai-Pune highway, along with one of his associates Kurban Ali, a resident of Rajasthan, the agency revealed.

During interrogation, they revealed that they were also involved in one case of Mumbai, in which 6 kg charas was seized from their other associates.

In the third operation, the NCB apprehended one Pradeep Rajaram Sahni with 70 gram of mephedrone in Mumbai’s Andheri West.

“Pradeep had disclosed that he used to supply the substance to various persons in the Andheri and Juhu area. He was employed as peon/runner with Balaji Telefilms Pvt Ltd through a third party,” the agency said, adding that his distribution network is being investigated.

In yet another action on the distribution network of drugs, the NCB arrested a Nigerian national namely Uka Emeka alias Godwin and recovered 4 gm of cocaine from him.

The seized drug originated from a South American country and the drug trafficker is suspected to be delivering the contraband in Mumbai’s Pali Hill, Bandra, Andheri, Juhu and Khar areas, said the NCB.
