Naidu condoles demise of Indian radio-astronomy pioneer Govind Swarup


New Delhi, September 8

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on Tuesday condoled the demise of the doyen of Indian radio astronomy Govind Swarup, saying his demise is a giant loss to the scientific area.

Swarup died on Monday evening in a personal hospital in Maharashtra following sickness. He was 91.

Swarup was instrumental in organising the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope and Ooty Radio Telescope, the Vice President identified.

“His death is a big loss to field of radio astronomy. Heartfelt condolences to bereaved family members. Om Shanti,” the Vice President Secretariat tweeted quoting Naidu. PTI
