Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla today demanded a high-level impartial probe into the sudden demise of SL Dharme Gowda, deputy chairman of the Karnataka Legislative Council.
Gowda was found dead on the rail tracks in Chikmagalur. He was in news recently after Congress members pushed him off his chair amid pandemonium during a no-confidence motion against the chairman of the legislative council. He was accusedof occupying the Chairman’s seat.
“I am deeply pained at the news of SL Dharme Gowda’s demise. The behaviour meted out to him, in his capacity as presiding officer of the Karnataka Legislative Council, is an assault on democracy. A high-level impartial probe into his demise is necessary,” Birla said today. A suicide note was recovered from near the body.
