New Delhi, August 26
A mixed tri-services contingent from India will participate in a 12-day navy train in Russia. Two of India’s edgy neighbours — China and Pakistan — can even be a part of the train scheduled from September 15 to 26.
The Indian contingent of round 200 officers and troops will participate within the ‘Kavkaz 2020’ (Caucasus 2020), a “strategic command-post exercise” within the Astrakhan area.
Since early May, India and China are locked in a tense navy standoff in Ladakh alongside the Line of Actual Control (LAC). The two sides had been concerned in a skirmish within the Galwan valley, resulting in casualties on either side on June 15.
India’s participation shall be of a company-level energy (round 180 troops from an infantry battalion). Elements of the Indian Air Force and observers from the Indian Navy can even be going.
China is sending a big contingent together with three ships for the train. “Our troops are going for a multilateral exercise where 18 countries are participating. It’s not an India-China-Pakistan event. In total, 13,000 troops will participate,” stated an official right here. — TNS
