Two years and eight months after 4 senior most judges of the Supreme Court nearly revolted towards the then CJI Dipak Misra, a three-judge Bench headed by Justice Arun Mishra on Monday expressed hope that the January 2018 occasion was the primary and final time judges held a press convention.
“We hope it was the first and the last occasion that the judges have gone to press, and God gives wisdom to protect its dignity by internal mechanism, particularly, when allegations made, if any, publicly cannot be met by sufferer judges. It would cause suffering to them till eternity,” the Bench stated in its verdict slapping a effective of Re 1 on advocate Prashant Bhushan.
The 4 judges — Justice J Chelameswar, Justice Ranjan Gogoi, Justice Madan B Lokur and Justice Kurian Joseph had complained about allocation of delicate instances by the then CJI Dipak Misra to “junior judges”. All of them have since retired.
The prime court docket commented on the 2018 judges’ press convention as Bhushan had referred to it in his affidavit.
