Fisherman killed in tiger assault in Bengal’s Sundarbans

A fisherman was killed by a tiger in West Bengal’s Sundarbans on Friday, a forest officer mentioned.

The incident comes a day after a crab-catcher was killed in a tiger assault in Marichjhapi Island within the forested area.

Six males from Parghumti village in Hingalganj police station space in North 24 Parganas district had been catching fishes in a canal in Bagna forest vary when all of the sudden a tiger leaped on one among them, recognized as 40-year-old Munna Gazi, and dragged him into the forest, the officer mentioned.

The 5 different fishermen succeeded in chasing away the tiger however Gazi had died by then, he mentioned.

With this incident, seven fishermen and crab-catchers have been killed in Sundarbans within the final 30-35 days, the officer mentioned.

The Forest Department has determined to carry an consciousness camp to stop incidents of man-animal battle in Sundarbans, sources mentioned. PTI
