Eight COVID-19 sufferers killed in hearth at Ahmedabad hospital

Eight coronavirus sufferers died in a fireplace contained in the ICU ward of a personal hospital in Ahmedabad metropolis within the early hours of Thursday, officers stated.

It is among the 60-odd ‘designated’ personal hospitals which have been authorised by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) to deal with coronavirus sufferers.

“Eight coronavirus sufferers admitted within the ICU ward on the fourth flooring of Shrey Hospital have died resulting from hearth.

41 different COVID sufferers who had been within the common ward on backside flooring had been rescued and shifted to SVP Hospital,” stated Rajiv Kumar Gupta, an IAS officer.

Shrey Hospital was sealed for investigation, stated Gupta, who has been deputed in Ahmedabad as an officer on particular obligation.

According to Chirag Patel, a hospital attendant who saved the lives of three aged sufferers, there have been eleven sufferers on the fourth flooring when the fireplace broke out.

The deceased had been recognized as Lilavati Shah (72), Jyoti Sindhi (55), Ayesha Tirmizi (51), Navneet Shah (80), Arif Mansoori (42), Narendra Shah (62), Arvind Bhavsar (78) and Manu Rami (82).

Additional Commissioner of Police RV Asari instructed reporters that Bharat Mahant, a trustee of the hospital, was being questioned.

Chief Minister Vijay Rupani ordered an inquiry by Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Sangeeta Singh and her counterpart within the Urban Development Department Mukesh Puri.

The two IAS officers have been requested to submit the inquiry report in three days, the Chief Minister’s Office stated in a press release.

Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel stated that one other attendant obtained 25 to 30 % burn accidents whereas making an attempt to avoid wasting the sufferers. The attendant and 41 sufferers had been shifted to SVP Hospital, he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the incident and introduced ex-gratia compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured.

“Saddened by the tragic hospital hearth in Ahmedabad. Condolences to the bereaved households. May the injured get better quickly.

“Spoke to CM @vijayrupanibjp Ji and Mayor @ibijalpatel Ji regarding the situation. Administration is providing all possible assistance to the affected,” the PM tweeted.

Chief Minister Rupani additionally introduced a compensation of Rs four lakh for the kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured. PTI
