Delimitation panel to go to four north-eastern states, J&Ok

New Delhi, August 30

The delimitation fee, set as much as redraw the constituencies of Assam, Manipur, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir, will go to the north-eastern states and the Union Territory after making ready a “broad framework” of the delimitation train, officers mentioned.

The fee will even search views and inputs of its “associate members” — a gaggle of Lok Sabha members and MLAs — after drawing up the broad framework.

“First the broad framework has to be developed on carving out constituencies based on the 2011 Census. Only then would the delimitation commission visit the states to meet locals. Once the framework is drawn, it would also interact with associate members to seek their views and inputs,” mentioned an official conscious of the developments.

The delimitation panel will redraw the Lok Sabha and meeting constituencies of the 4 north-eastern states and work on rising the Assembly seats of the Union Territory of J&Ok as per the provisions of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act. The delimitation fee for the 4 north-eastern states and J&Ok was arrange in March.

It is headed by former Supreme Court Judge Justice Ranjana Desai (retd). Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra is the consultant of the Election Commission within the delimitation panel, whereas state election commissioners of J&Ok and the 4 states are its ex-officio members. — PTI
