Delhi riots: Court sends Sharjeel Imam to 14-days judicial custody in UAPA case


New Delhi, September 3

A Delhi court docket Wednesday despatched JNU scholar Sharjeel Imam, arrested beneath stringent anti-terror regulation Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, to judicial custody for 14 days in a case associated to communal violence in northeast Delhi in February.

Imam was arrested by the Special Cell of Delhi police on August 25 for allegedly being a part of a “premeditated conspiracy” in connection to the riots throughout protests towards the Citizenship Amendment Act.

Additional Sessions Judge Amitabh Rawat despatched him to jail after he was produced earlier than the court docket via video conferencing.

The court docket had earlier despatched him to police custody for 3 days.
