Coast Guard rescues ten fishermen as boat sinks in sea after mishap off Rameswaram

Rameswaram (TN), July 26

The Indian Coast Guard rescued ten Tamil Nadu fishermen who have been struggling within the sea off close by Pamban after their boat hit a rock and sank on Sunday, a senior official stated.

The fishermen from Tharuvaikulam in Tuticorin district tried to cross the century-old cantilever Pamban railway bridge when their vessel veered off the trail and hit a rock, Mandapam Coast Guard station Commander M Venkatesh stated.

The boat, on its option to Nagapattinam, suffered harm, capsized and later sank.

Some fishermen passing by the spot alerted the Marine police on seeing the ten struggling within the waters.

A workforce of Coast Guard personnel from Mandapam base and native Marine police coordinated the rescue operation and introduced the fishermen to shore in a hovercraft, he added. PTI
