Centre has notified CBI taking on Sathankulam case: TN govt

Chennai, July 7

The Centre has issued a notification on CBI taking on investigation into the deaths of a father and son duo belonging to Tuticorin district, the Tamil Nadu authorities mentioned on Tuesday.

Following Chief Minister Ok Palaniswami’s letter to Home Minister Amit Shah requesting a probe by the Central company into the deaths of Jeyaraj and Bennicks, “the Central government has now issued a notification (on CBI taking over investigation into the case),” an official launch right here mentioned.

After saying a CBI probe just lately, Palaniswami had written to the Home Minister.

The CB-CID is presently dealing with the case as per the course of the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court.

Five police personnel together with an inspector have been arrested up to now.

Bennicks and Jeyaraj died on June 22 and 23 respectively after alleged torture by Sathankulam police in Tuticorin district following their arrest on June 19.

They had been arrested for alleged violation of prohibitory orders in drive attributable to COVID-19 lockdown by retaining their cell phone store within the district past the allowed time. PTI
