The Centre will henceforth rank efficiency of states with regard to implementation of rural growth programmes.

In this regard, the Union Rural Development Minister Narendra Singh Tomar introduced parameters on which the proposed assessments of efficiency can be finished.

“The performance of the states on the parameters of the index would also promote the spirit of competitive, cooperative federalism amongst states,” stated Tomar.

The programmes embrace Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, Deen Dayal Antyodaya Yojana -National Rural Livelihood Mission, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana -Grameen and Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana.

A provision of about Rs 1,20,000 crore was made within the Union Budget for monetary yr 2020-21.

Subsequently, a further Rs 40,000 crore, over and above the quantity, has additionally been offered for the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme throughout this monetary yr in view of Covid pandemic.

The Ministry has already launched greater than Rs 90,000 crore to the states/UTs throughout the present monetary yr.
