All eyes are now on the outcome of Home Minister Amit Shah and Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh’s meeting, which is under way in the capital, to find a solution to the impasse created by agitating farmers in Delhi.

Amit Shah and Amarinder Singh are meeting at the former’s residence.

In an important cue to the Chief Minister ahead of the meeting, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said: “Anything less than the repeal of black farm laws would be a betrayal of the farmers of India.”

It remains to be seen how rigid a stand the Chief Minister takes in the meeting with Shah, whether he heeds the advice of Gandhi or strikes a middle ground.

Capt Amarinder may also be part of the deliberations the Centre has with farmers.

The Chief Minister had earlier warned the Centre of the agitation and sought a status quo with respect to Punjab, where he said the arthiya system was part of the social fabric of the agriculture dominated landscape.
