New Delhi, November 7
In worrisome signs for India’s Covid-19 responders, the country witnessed more than 50,000 daily new infections today with the gap between fresh cases and corresponding recoveries dropping to the lowest level since October 27.
The count breached the 50,000 mark for the second time in 12 days (also on November 5), reflecting laxity on the people’s part during festivals and the expected negative impact of winter and pollution on pandemic management. The difference between new cases and recoveries stood at 27,372 on October 27, which fell to 3,564 today (53,920 recoveries against 50,356 infections). For the first time, Delhi contributed the maximum cases — 7,178 — in 24 hours, followed by Kerala (7,002) and Maharashtra (6,870). Health experts have been warning people against letting their guard down. — TNS
