The Assam authorities on Tuesday mentioned it has prolonged the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 (AFSPA) within the state for six extra months with impact from August 28.
The state has been declared a “disturbed area” on account of latest rebel assaults on safety forces within the Northeast and restoration of unlawful arms and ammunition from completely different areas of Assam, an official assertion mentioned.
Many civil society teams and activists have been demanding the withdrawal of the draconian regulation from the state.
