6 killed in lightning strikes in Odisha


Bhubaneswar, August 3

At least six folks, together with two youngsters, had been killed and two others injured after being hit by lightning in separate incidents in Odisha’s Balasore and Bhadrak district on Monday, police stated.

While two youngsters and a farmer died in Balasore district, three others died in neighbouring Bhadrak district, they stated.

A 12-year-old woman had gone to tie Rakhi to her cousin brother aged 15 years at Mandagaon village below Khantapada police station restrict when lightning struck and each the youngsters died on the spot whereas two others current close by had been injured.

The injured have been admitted to a neighborhood hospital, the police stated.

In one other incident in Balasore district, a 46-year-old farmer of Arabandha village below Nilgiri police station died as lightning struck him whereas he was spraying pesticides in his paddy discipline, they stated.

In Bhadrak district, a 35-year-old farmer was killed after being hit by lightning when he was working within the discipline at Mathasahi below Chandbali police station restrict, police stated.

In the same incident, one other farmer, aged round 55 years, died as lightning struck when he was working within the paddy discipline in Tihidi space, they stated.

In yet one more incident in Bhadrak district, a 42-year-old man died as a consequence of lightning when he had gone to a market in Chandbali for purchasing, they added. PTI
