Tragedy struck a family at Wanaparthy district in Telangana when five women of the house were killed after a roof of the mud house in their ancestral house collapsed.
They had gone to their ancestral house to attend a funeral. The incident took place in the early hours today at Buddaram village of Gopalpet Mandal.
The incident happened when four sons and their spouses along with children went to the village to attend to the first death anniversary of their father. The ancestral home had been lying unused for a while. The roof collapsed when five women were sleeping inside the mud house.
After hearing screams, the villagers alerted the administration and rescue teams rushed to the spot led by the local Superintendent of Police.
The five women could not be saved but two others from the family sustained injuries and were shifted to a hospital.
Telangana Agriculture Minister S Niranjan Reddy, a native of Wanaparthy district, has expressed shock and extended his condolences to the family for their loss.
The women were identified as 68-year-old Chevva Manemma, 38-year-old Supraja, 21-year-old Vaishnavi, 18-year-old Rinki and 38-year-old Umadevi.
This is the second tragedy for the family this month as on October 13. From the same family, two persons had died and five others were injured when their house collapsed at Moosa Bowl of Hussaini Alam in Hyderabad’s old city due to heavy rains.
