Washington, April 13
US President Joe Biden on Tuesday said that he had planned to have all American troops out of war-torn Afghanistan by September 11 this year, the 20th anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attack on the twin towers in New York.
The President is deeply grateful for the honour, courage and determination of the US’ men and women who served in Afghanistan for almost two decades, as well as the sacrifices made not just by those troops, but also by their families, a senior Biden administration official told reporters during a conference call.
“The process will begin before May 1 and we plan to have all US troops out before the 20th anniversary of 9/11,” the official said.
“We went to Afghanistan for justice. We believe we achieved that objective some years ago,” the official added. — PTI
