UK in race towards time for Covid vaccine rollout

Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Monday said Britain was in a race against time to rollout Covid vaccines as deaths hit record highs and hospitals run out of oxygen, with Chief Medical Officer Chris Whitty saying the pandemic’s worst weeks were imminent.

A new virus variant threatening to overwhelm the health service with hospitals overloaded with patients.

Its death tool (81,000) is the world’s fifth-highest one while more than three million people have tested positive.

Over 15 million people in Britain will be vaccinated by next month. — Reuters
