TikTok to go away Hong Kong as safety regulation raises worries

TikTok mentioned Tuesday it should cease operations in Hong Kong after town enacted a sweeping nationwide safety regulation final week.

The firm mentioned in an announcement that it had determined to halt operations “in light of recent events.” TikTok’s departure from Hong Kong comes as numerous social media platforms and messaging apps together with Facebook, WhatsApp, Telegram, Google and Twitter balk at the potential for offering consumer knowledge to Hong Kong authorities.

The social media corporations say they’re assessing the ramifications of the nationwide safety regulation. —AP
