Sri Lanka cricketer Kusal Mendis arrested after deadly street accident


Colombo, July 5

Sri Lanka batsman Kusal Mendis was arrested on Sunday after the car he was driving hit and killed a 64-year-old bike owner.

The accident passed off at 5 am on the Old Galle Road within the Colombo suburb of Panadura.

Mendis will seem earlier than a Justice of the Peace even because the police conduct an investigation into the accident.

According to police, Mendis’ automobile crashed into the bicycle of the deceased who has been recognized as a resident of Gokarella.

The sufferer suffered critical accidents and died as he was being admitted to the hospital.

The police have taken the cricketer’s SUV into its custody and would examine if he was driving beneath the affect.

The 25-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman has represented Sri Lanka in 44 Tests and 76 ODIs. Mendis was a part of the nationwide squad which had resumed coaching after the COVID-19 lockdown.

In 2003, Sri Lanka’s spinner Kaushal Lokuarachchi was given a four-year suspended jail sentence for crashing his car into a lady pedestrian.

Sri Lanka’s worldwide assignments, together with a tour by India, have been cancelled because of the pandemic. PTI
