Oz, UK, Canada condemn mass arrests in HK

Canberra, January 10

The foreign ministers of Australia, UK, Canada and the US issued a joint statement on Sunday expressing concern over the arrest of 55 activists in Hong Kong last week.

The arrests were by far the largest such action taken under a national security law that China imposed on the semi-autonomous territory over six months ago. The statement was signed by Marise Payne of Australia, Francois-Philippe Champagne of Canada, Dominic Raab of the UK and Mike Pompeo of the US. — AP
