NASA astronauts aboard SpaceX make splashdown

Two NASA astronauts returned to Earth in a dramatic, retro-style splashdown, their capsule parachuting into the Gulf of Mexico to shut out an unprecedented check flight by Elon Musk’s SpaceX firm.

It was the primary splashdown by US astronauts in 45 years, with the primary commercially constructed and operated spacecraft to hold individuals to and from orbit.

The capsule parachuted into the calm gulf waters about 40 miles off the coast of Pensacola. AP
