Macron exams Covid optimistic, isolates self

Paris, December 17

France President Emmanuel Macron has tested positive for Covid. It was not immediately clear on Thursday where he had contracted the virus. Macron’s office said he would isolate for the next seven days and would continue to run the country remotely.

Meanwhile, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has said China will welcome an international team of Covid investigators in January. China opposes such calls to trace Covid origin, but is open to WHO’s probe. It is unclear if WHO investigators will travel to Wuhan. Saudi Arabia has started a vaccination programme. — Agencies
