LA declares fiscal emergency, 15Ok jobs in danger

Los Angeles, September 3

The Los Angeles City Council has declared a fiscal emergency due to the coronavirus pandemic, paving the best way to furlough about 15,000 staff.

Wednesday’s declaration comes as town appears to be like at a tax shortfall this 12 months of as much as USD 400 million.

Mayor Eric Garcetti is predicted to approve the measure.

The furloughs, which might start on October 11, would require civilian staff to take as much as 18 days off from work. But a labour union official tells the Los Angeles Daily News that the furloughs violate labour contracts and shall be vigorously fought. AP
