A mom and her three kids scanned the varsity provides in a Paris grocery store, plucking out multicolored fountain pens, crisp notebooks and loads of masks. Despite resurgent Covid infections, related scenes are unfolding throughout Europe as a brand new faculty 12 months dawns.
Virus or no virus, European authorities are decided to place kids again into school rooms, to slender the training gaps between haves and have-nots that deepened throughout lockdowns – and to get their mother and father again to work.
Facing a bounce in virus instances, the authorities in France, Britain, Spain and elsewhere are imposing masks guidelines, hiring additional lecturers and constructing new desks en masse.
While the US back-to-school saga has been politicised and chaotic, with a hodgepodge of fast-changing guidelines and backlash in opposition to President Donald Trump’s insistence on reopening, European governments have confronted much less of an uproar.
And although the virus has invaded school rooms in current days from Berlin to Seoul, and a few lecturers and fogeys warn that their colleges aren’t prepared, European leaders are sending a message: Even in a pandemic, kids are higher off in school. — AP
