EU okays $815-bn Covid restoration programme

Brussels, February 10

European Union lawmakers on Wednesday approved a 672.5 billion euro (USD 815 billion) recovery package of loans and grants to help member nations recover more quickly from the Covid pandemic, but countries will not receive the money for several months. EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the bloc’s much-criticised vaccine rollout could be partly blamed on the EU being over-optimistic, over-confident and late.

UK Prince Charles and his wife Camilla have received their first of two doses of a vaccine, the royal couple’s Clarence House office said without confirming which vax they got. — Agencies
