Baby elephant dies at St Louis zoo weeks after his beginning

St Louis (US), August 3

A child elephant has died a number of weeks after it was born on the St Louis Zoo.

Zoo officers stated the Asian elephant calf named Avi was euthanised on Sunday as a result of he had developmental issues that restricted his skill to feed.

The zoo stated Avi’s situation had deteriorated rapidly in latest days regardless of feeding help and intravenous therapies.

Zoo President and CEO Jeffrey Bonner stated everybody on the zoo is “just devastated right now” on the lack of Avi.

The calf was born on July 6 to a 24-year-old Asian elephant on the zoo. The zoo’s 27-year-old bull elephant was the daddy. An elephant being pregnant lasts about 22 months and a calf weighs between 250 and 350 kilos (113 to 159 kg) at beginning. AP
