“Peace on earth will come to stay, when we live Christmas every day.” – Helen Steiner Rice
There is something magical about Christmas. Spending time with loved ones, enjoying a feast; watching that special Christmas-themed movie and, of course, being the secret Santa to someone! That’s the essence of the festival.
Are you looking for ideas on how to make this day special? Take a cue from these celebrities who tell us about their favourite Christmas movie and how they turn Santa every year to do little things in order to spread some warmth.
Aahana Kumra, actress
Becoming Santa: I am Santa to my four-year-old nephew and friends’ kids. Last year, it was extra-special because I returned home in time from London for Christmas and had got my nephew presents, which I kept under the Christmas tree. When he woke up and saw all them, he was shocked that Santa came and had got him all those things.
For this time: This year it will be a little different. I will go with my nephew and donate books, clothes and blankets to underprivileged children. We will also do the usual Christmas dinner at home; we celebrate the festival quite nicely.
Dipannita Sharma, actress
Favourite X-mas movie: Love Actually; it feels so festive with all the unique love stories that run parallelly.
Becoming Santa: I have been involved in quite a few charities; I help out children with their education and pay for their medical expenses. I’ve been doing it for many years as part of charitable organisations. Apart from that, whenever I could, I’ve been there for my friends when they needed help. It feels really good to be able to help someone in need.
For this time: This year, we all know how the situation has been… Remotely, whatever I can, I will do in my capacity to be there for people, otherwise it is going to be a quiet Christmas. Hopefully, I’ll be able to connect with people I love on video calls and send gifts.
Aparshakti Khurana, actor
Favourite X-mas movie: I like many Christmas movies, but I think if I had to choose one it would be The Christmas Chronicles and the sequel.
Becoming Santa: I have been a Santa to many friends in the past and will do the same this year too!
For this time: This year has filled my heart with gratitude. I am grateful that my family and I have been safe. So, I guess I will conclude the year by spending time with them and bonding over food as well as laughter.
Surya Sharma, actor
Favourite X-mas movie: Home Alone; I love this movie because I have studied in Himachal Pradesh and the snowfall during Christmas reminds me of my school days.
Becoming Santa: The culture of Christmas is a bit different in our family, we celebrate the day by giving presents to each other and being each other’s Santa.
For this time: This Christmas is very special for me, as I am going to become an uncle around the festival. I am going to throw a party on the 25th and buy lots of gifts for the new family member.
Zara Khan, actress
Favourite X-mas movie: The Grinch; it has a very good message and is a classic that I’ve been watching since I was a kid.
Becoming Santa: Yes, I have played that role and not just during Christmas but all around the year. Whenever I see someone really wants or likes something, which I own, I just give it to them straight away; it really makes me happy.
For this time: I am planning to cook an amazing Christmas dinner for my friends and family. I love cooking and feeding people.
Gift a smile
Divya Dutta, actress
Favourite X-mas movie: The Christmas Chronicles is one of my favourite Christmas movies.
Becoming Santa: Yes, I have been Santa to my niece and nephew at home. I love to still do that and keep it a secret. I also like to play Santa for poor children. It is about making people smile and that is not limited to this one day! I still have fond memories of my mother keeping gifts for me on Christmas.
For this time: I shall be Santa for kids around me and give gifts to them.
