In her second innings

Last seen in Kullfi Kumarr Bajewala, Pallavi Rao is currently playing the role of Mamiji in Pandya Store. The actress talks to us about this new show, her role and life in general. Read on

Tell us something about your background.

I am from Uttarakhand. My father was in government service, so I have moved around quite a bit. Acting was never on my mind. It is in Ahmedabad where I finished my education. My parents still live there.

What was your dream career as a child?

I wanted to be an air hostess, but my father was not in favour of it. Then I was thinking of civil services but that did not click. I came to Mumbai to study law. Just for fun, I clicked my pictures and gave them to a reputed production house. Within a few days, I got a call and was selected for a role.

How has been your journey in the telly world so far?

The start was terrific I would say. I got Shaka Laka Boom Boom second season when I got married. But after that I was expecting my first child. And then I took some time off and came back after a long gap. My second innings started with Main Lakshmi Tere Aangan Ki. Then I did Diya Aur Bati Hum, Meri Aashique Tum Se Hi, Dhai Kilo Prem and Kulfi Kumarr Bajewala.

Tell us about your role in Pandya Store.

I am playing a Gujarati character, Mamiji. She is a greedy lady who wants to get hold of Pandya Store and convert it into Prafulla Store. She can be cruel and is very unpredictable. Sometimes, I’m surprised by her dialogues in the script.

Who’s your on-set friend?

The cast and crew of Pandya Store are very warm. A special mention must be made of Shiny Doshi. She is a wonderful co-star and is very respectful towards me. We chat and giggle on the sets. The bond is only growing.

Share your fitness regime with us.

Before Covid, it was great going. I used to walk and jog. I have done workouts with trainers also but not for a long time. I also keep an eye on my diet. I eat my meals on time. That’s very important.

What is your me-time about?

My me-time belongs to my dogs. Currently, I have four dogs. I have also done a lot of work with the stray dogs. I used to pick them up and bring them home. I just cuddle them and listen to music with them as dogs love music too.

One wish that you want to fulfil this year?

I love being with nature and I used to often go for treks. The pandemic last year ruined all my plans. I wish to go for a solo trip soon.
