How did you begin your journey?
I am from a middle-class family in Gujarat. A lot of people laughed at my Hindi because my accent was Gujarati. It was frustrating, but also exciting as it challenged me. I learnt a lot and improved my vocabulary, and never stopped giving auditions.
How did you get your first break?
Nobody ever gave me a break as a singer. I gave myself a chance. I am an independent artiste from the beginning. I self-produced my first song Judaa in 2017 and then there was no looking back.
What was your big moment?
When T-Series released my song. That was a big moment for me because most of the singers don’t get such a chance right at the beginning of their careers. I’m still grateful to the label.
Have you taken any formal training in singing?
I used to watch a lot of music videos on YouTube and sang along. I haven’t taken any training for singing. It’s a God-gift; I just express my feelings when I record a song. I do a little bit of daily practice and that makes it easier for me to understand the technical part of singing.
Who is your inspiration?
I listen to hip hop, EDM, trap and Bollywood music. I’m a huge fan of Arijit Singh. His voice inspires me. I also listen to songs from the 90s; there are so many amazing singers from that era. In Hollywood, I love listening to Adele.
Which is the recent song you sang?
My recent song was Aaja; it is a very fun song and my husband Florian Hurel featured in it along with me.
