Gulzar to recount encounters with stalwarts of Indian cinema in upcoming ebook

New Delhi, September 17

From Satayajit Ray to R D Burman, and Kishore Kumar to Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, celebrated lyricist-writer-film director Gulzar will recount his encounters with stalwarts of Indian cinema, artwork, and literature in his new ebook slated to launch in 2021, introduced publishing home Penguin Random House India on Thursday.

Tentatively titled “Actually… I Met Them: A Memoir”, the ebook will probably be revealed beneath the ‘Hamish Hamilton imprint’, they stated.  According to them, the ebook will give readers a peek into the minds of legends like Bimal Roy, Ritwik Ghatak, Hrishikesh Mukherjee and Mahasweta Devi, via the trusted lens of Gulzar, who will share recollections and experiences of working with them.

“Memories do not dry up actually. They maintain floating someplace between the aware and the unconscious thoughts. It’s an incredible feeling to swim there someday. Pick up a number of bubbly moments and cherish them once more.

“I was fortunate to be born in the era of some of the greatest masters, and was lucky that I actually met them. I got a chance to work with a few. There were gurus, friends and colleagues among them,” stated the 86-year-old poet.

Featuring uncommon images, the ebook will even embody chapters on modern filmmakers, writers, poets, musicians, singers and actors.
