Filmmaker and journalist Indrajit Lankesh on Tuesday claimed that at the very least 15 folks within the Kannada movie trade have been concerned in drug trafficking.
He made the declare a day after deposing earlier than the police to share the details about the alleged drug racket working within the movie trade.
“I have given (names of) around 15 people whom I know are into the drug business. I shared those names with the police,” Lankesh instructed PTI.
Lankesh was questioned for practically 5 hours by the Central Crime Branch on Monday for his assertion that there have been many individuals within the movie trade who have been into the drug enterprise both as customers or sellers.
The filmmaker made the assertion within the wake of the Narcotics Control Bureau busting a drug trafficking racket right here and mentioned some “prominent musicians and actors” in Karnataka have been beneath its scanner.
The filmmaker mentioned he needed to show the drug use within the trade.
“There are celebrities, who when start smoking and start doing cocaine, they are the brand ambassadors of youth today. These people think it is cool,” he added.
Lankesh mentioned he suspected that a number of the events organised within the ‘Sandalwood’ have been hosted by drug mafias throughout the trade.
Lankesh didn’t rule out the potential for the Mumbai underworld behind the provision of medication to a bit of individuals within the Kannada movie trade.
Meanwhile, the police mentioned they have been probing the matter. PTI
