It is her first stint with comedy and Iranian-German actress Elnaaz Norouzi is already starting to like the genre! “I will definitely work in another comedy movie. My character, Mona, is the connecting link between Charlie (Aadar Jain ) and Jackie Shroff’s character. When I was offered this role, I was immediately hooked. I think I now know how to pick the right script for myself. Once you remove your character and if the script does not have a gripping story, then you are going in the right direction! This worked for me in Sacred Games and now in Hello Charlie as well.”
The model-turned-actress has a year-long experience of theatre from Hanover, Germany. Fluent in German, English, French and Hindi, and trained in dance, she is willing to learn more as she moves along. She adds, “Having learnt so many languages earlier, I have a habit of learning, which I want to maintain.”
Even during the lockdown or the times when shooting was prohibited, she kept herself occupied with some or the other activity. “I am a person who really likes to study a lot. I read five books at a time and depending on my mood, I continue reading the one I like at that time. I did a workshop at the New York Film Academy. It was my dream to study there, but I was always a working actor; so, the pandemic helped me tick that off my list.”
The actress has also done Punjabi films Maan Jao Naa and Khido Khundi. She recalls, “I used to ask the director to send the script two days in advance, so that I could learn Punjabi dialogues properly. In a way, all your first projects are like schooling for you.”
As for the future, she says, “I would like to spend more time with my family. And, professionally, I want to essay different as well as difficult roles.” For 2021, she has another web series in store for her fans, besides a movie, Sangeen, in which she will be seen opposite Nawazuddin Siddiqui, once again after Sacred Games!
