Divjot Kaur owes her career as a model and actor to her days in Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Amritsar. As a B.Arch. student in GNDU, she realised her talent for acting and she switched to an easier course, B.Tech in food technology, to be able to do theatre.
Participating in youth festivals to featuring in Punjabi music videos to acting in short films to being a regular at Punjab Naatshala, Amritsar to winning a beauty pageant and a regional talent hunt competition, Divjot is willing to do whatever her heart says. She has already acted in a couple of films which will be released next year.
Although there are many firsts because in this short span, I got to do not just music videos but also plays, digital movie, short films, ad campaigns and magazine shoots. But after my participation in a youth festival, few members of Punjab Naatshala, Amritsar contacted me for a play and I am still proud of my first play Uff Meri Biwiyan, where I played the lead.
- The most interesting shoot so far and why…
The Trending Jatti song with Gurlez Akhtar. Though it hasn’t been released yet, but I know that it would be a hit. I enjoyed working with her. She is a gem of a person.
It would be the first digital project Jattu Nikhatu in 2019. I recently completed dubbing of the movie.
- A designer you wish to walk for…
To be honest, who doesn’t like to wear clothes designed by Sabyasachi Mukherjee and Manish Malhotra? But right now, I am focused on establishing myself as a good actor. So, except for showing support to a few Amritsar-based labels through my work, songs and films are what I am doing these days.
- A fashion tip for youngsters?
Be confident about your choices and never be afraid of taking a risk.
I would have been preparing for the IAS.
- Your current style obsession?
Formal pants with a coat.
- What is your daily routine like?
I wake up early, exercise and then eat. Also, when I’m not shooting, I love to organise my room and wardrobe.
- What will you wear for a date?
I would probably go for a Gucci one-piece in brown colour.
During the lockdown, I had put on weight. I exercised and controlled my diet to get back in shape. I like sautéed vegetables and green tea.
Since 2018, I had this idea of a perfect wardrobe and started building on that. I have different sections for my everyday needs, from tops to one-pieces to jeans to shoes. And if I have to pick one thing that I can’t do without, it would be handbags.
- A hangout place in the region…
I enjoy long drives in and around the city. For some me time, Café Coffee Day is the best option. Pyramid or Bon’s Adda to hangout with friends. And at GNDU, the auditorium is my favourite place for there are so many memories.
To make a name for myself in acting and eventually also start some business venture.
- Places on your travel list?
Dubai and Maldives.
- An exotic place you would like to go with your date?
- A celeb you wish to date?
- A celeb’s gym look you admire…
I am a self-obsessed person and rather than stalking someone’s looks or everyday activities, I would talk about their work.
- healthy snack you munch on…
- The quote that you live by?
Apne dil di suno or you can put it this way, ‘Only do what your heart tells you’— Princess Diana.
It’s me, my car and a long drive.
