Wholesale inflation in detrimental zone

New Delhi, August 14

The wholesale price-based inflation stood at (-) 0.58% in July, remaining within the detrimental zone for the fourth straight month at the same time as greens and different meals objects turned costlier. WPI inflation in June was (-) 1.81%, whereas for the month of May and April it was (-) 3.37% and (-) 1.57%, respectively.

“The annual rate of inflation, based on monthly WPI (Wholesale Price Index), stood at (-0.58%) (provisional) for the month of July, 2020 as compared to 1.17% during the corresponding month of the previous year,” the Commerce and Industry Ministry stated.

Inflation in meals articles was at a four-month excessive degree of 4.08% in July, primarily attributable to sharp rise in vegetable costs. Inflation in greens stood at 8.20%, in opposition to (-) 9.21% in June.

Pulses noticed inflation of 10.24%, whereas for potato it was 69.07% in July. — PTI
