PIL : Make ‘country of origin’ label should for e-commerce platforms


New Delhi, July 24

Amid India-China standoff, a PIL has been filed within the Supreme Court in search of path to the Centre to border a legislation mandating all e-commerce platforms equivalent to Amazon and Flipkart to show ‘nation of origin’ on merchandise they promote to allow customers to make knowledgeable selections.

A Bench headed by Chief Justice of India SA Bobde issued discover to the Centre asking it to reply to the petition filed by Divya Jyoti Singh.

Referring to “influx of junk” from China by way of e-commerce websites and requires boycotting Chinese merchandise in view of India-China battle in Ladakh, the petitioner submitted that the path be issued for formulating a legislation asking all e-commerce business/portals promoting items in India to show the ‘nation of origin’ label in a legible method. — TNS
