The authorities has initiated a course of to deliver helmets below necessary BIS regime as a part of efforts to scale back deadly accidents involving two-wheelers, the Road Transport and Highways Ministry mentioned on Saturday.
Once the method is accomplished solely BIS-certified helmets for two-wheeler riders can be manufactured and offered in India.
“The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has issued a draft notification for bringing protective helmets for two-wheelers rider under compulsory certification as per the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016,” the MoRTH mentioned in an announcement.
This will allow to have solely BIS-certified helmets for two-wheelers to be manufactured and offered in India, it mentioned.
“It will also improve the quality of two-wheeler helmets and would improve road safety scenario, and further would be helpful in reducing fatal injuries involving two-wheelers,” it added.
The Ministry has invited options or feedback on this respect which could be despatched to the Joint Secretary (MVL), Ministry of Road Transport and Highways inside a month. PTI
